Formed in 2005, The Temper Trap emerged from the Melbourne indie scene and gained recognition at the St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival in 2006. Their debut EP attracted attention worldwide, leading British producer Jim Abbis to fly to Australia and help prepare their first album, “Conditions,” which was released in 2009. The album’s U2-inspired anthem, “Sweet Disposition,” became a hit, achieving platinum sales and accumulating over 500 million streams on Spotify. “Conditions” achieved widespread success, reaching the Top 10 on the ARIA charts and winning multiple awards. The band toured with Coldplay and the Rolling Stones, performing at renowned festivals.
In 2012, they released their second album, self-titled “The Temper Trap,” which topped the Australian charts and earned them ARIA Awards. The departure of a founding member in 2013 marked a significant moment for the band. They continued their journey by collaborating with external songwriters for their follow-up album, “Thick As Thieves,” released in 2016. The band celebrated the ten-year anniversary of “Conditions” with a sold-out tour in 2019. During the hiatus, band members pursued solo projects.
In 2022, The Temper Trap’s past releases gained popularity on TikTok, and their collaboration with Mac Miller on the track “Love Lost” garnered millions of streams. The band plans to return to the studio in 2022 to work on new music, always driven to evolve and create.
